Frequently Asked Questions
is personal training right for me?
Determining if personal training is right for you involves considering your fitness goals, preferences, and circumstances.
Here are a few good questions to answer before you start…
What are your goals?
Do you want to get stronger, have more energy, get in better shape or improve your sports performance? Having clear goals will help you assess whether a trainer can help you achieve them.
What is your knowledge and experience?
Evaluate your current fitness knowledge and experience. If you're new to exercise or have limited experience with various workout routines, a high-level personal trainer can provide valuable guidance.
What is your budget?
Assess your budget and resources. Personal training is an investment, so consider whether you have the financial means to hire a trainer.
What is your time commitment?
Review your schedule and availability. Personal training sessions require dedicated time, so make sure that you can commit to the recommended frequency and duration of sessions.
What is your learning style?
Think about your personality and learning style. Some people thrive, and prefer, one-on-one instruction and personalized attention. However, others might work better in group classes or self-guided workouts.
If I have an injury, or I am working through an injury, can I still train?
Absolutely. As a former collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach, Coach Lawless takes pride in his ability to have kept athletes healthy year-round. However, injuries are a part of sport and life. Therefore, Coach Lawless is very skilled in working around injury to help you continue to make progress. After a thorough consultation and ongoing communication, we will identify your limitations to ensure that your program provides exactly what you need.
What does the initial assessment involve?
The initial assessment allows us to identify your starting point. We discuss your training and injury history as well as any current restrictions you might have or need to work around. We also discuss any obstacles you foresee getting in the way of your progress. From there, we outline what your goals are and lay out expectations. We then take you through a brief movement assessment. Lastly, we review that information and work backwards from your goals to put together your ideal plan.
What does a normal session look like?
Everything is designed and executed specifically for you and your goals. However, most sessions start with movement prep exercises, followed by a progressive strength program, and finished with a conditioning piece. The amount and volume of each of those components varies depending on your goals and where we are at in your program.
Can you help with nutrition?
Nutrition plays a critical role in achieving your health and wellness goals. Coach Lawless is NOT a Registered Dietician but IS a Level One Nutrition Coach through Precision Nutrition. He has helped many athletes, and non-athletes, achieve their body composition goals and is happy to provide you with information and recommendations on food choices/quantities as well as give you strategies to achieve your best possible results.
How often should I work with a personal trainer?
The frequency of training sessions depends on your goals, schedule, and budget. Most clients that work with Coach Lawless in person come 2-3 times per week and make it part of their weekly routine.
How long will it take to see results?
The timeline for seeing results varies from person to person and depends on your starting point, goals, consistency, and effort. Generally, you can expect to see noticeable changes in a few weeks to a few months.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a strict cancellation policy. In the event that you need to cancel a session, we require a minimum of a 24-hour notice. This allows other clients to book a session during this time slot. Any pre-paid appointments that are canceled with less than a 24-hour notice are subject to a complete charge of the scheduled service(s). We completely understand that accidents happen, people get sick and/or emergencies occur and we accommodate these rare occasions with grace. Our goal is to be preventative in order to protect and accommodate our coaches and clients.
